Mrs. Burke’s Expectations:

  1. Be safe

  2. Be respectful 

  3. Be responsible 

  4. Be engaged 

 

If these schoolwide expectations are not being met, there will be a casual redirection given by Mrs. Burke. If it continues, we will need to talk in the hall (or after school) to figure out a plan for improvement. Perhaps a written plan or apology will need to be created by the student. Some situations may require a call home. Other situations will require the student to be removed from the classroom to the office, and detention may be assigned. 

 

Materials Needed: 

  1. Notebook (a partially used notebook is OK)

  2. Folder

  3. Pencils

  4. Colored pencils/highlighters

  2. Healthy Lifestyle Choices

  3. Goal Setting and Behavior Modification 

  4. Lifestyle Diseases, Cancer, Heart Disease

  5. Social Skills, Assertiveness Skills

  6. Bullying, Advocacy, Abuse, Survivors

  7. Reproductive Systems

  8. Reproductive Health

  9. Abstinence, Birth Control, Consent

  10. Communicable Diseases, Sexually Transmitted Illnesses, Condoms

  11. Addiction, Alcohol, Drugs, Tobacco, Vaping

  12. Mental Health and Mental Illnesses

  13. Suicide Prevention

  14. Health-Related Current Events

Educational Standards we will meet:

  1. Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health.

  2. Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors.

  3. Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks.

  4. Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health.

  5. Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting skills to enhance health.

  6. Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks.

  7. Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.

 

Grading will be based on participation, projects, and tests.

Participation: 30%        Assignments: 20% Projects: 30%       Tests: 20%

 

Grading Scale:

94% - 100% = A

90% - 93% = A-

87% - 89% = B+

84% - 86% = B

80% - 83% = B-

77% - 79% = C+

74% - 76% = C

70% - 73% = C-

67% - 69% = D+

64% - 66% = D

60% - 63% = D-

59% - Below = F

 

Extra Credit (Great for making up lost participation points!)

  1. Find a credible health article (Newspaper, Magazine, Internet)

  2. Summarize the Article (3-5 main points)

  3. Present your summary in one of the following ways:

    1. Verbally share your summary to the class (1-2 minutes)

    2. Discuss article with Mrs. Burke (I will ask questions :)

    3. Written Summary

    4. Visual Poster/Slides
